Episode 73: No Shortcut


On August 15, 1914, the Panama Canal opened to shipping traffic and permitted a shortcut savings thousands of miles of sailing for cargo moving around North and South America from ports around the world.


What would have been different in a world where there was no water shortcut across Central America?
